Welcome to Dementia web Gloucestershire

Monday, May 23rd, 2011

Welcome to Dementia web for Gloucestershire, Guideposts sincerely hopes you will find all the help you need within the site. If there is anything you would like added, changed, you have some practical ideas, interesting information that you feel may be helpful to other carers, do let us know through the  ‘contact by feedback form’ on the website.

Dementia web Gloucestershire is the fourth Dementia web site to be launched by Guideposts Trust, with three others in Oxfordshire, Warwickshire and Kent & Medway.  It is hoped that eventually there will be a Dementia web for each county in England and Wales.  The aim of Dementia web is to enable everyone – people with dementia, carers, professionals and voluntary groups – to access accurate, information about all aspects of dementia, local services, groups, events and contacts throughout Gloucestershire.  It provides a true ‘one-stop shop’ for all users of dementia services.

Caring for a loved one with dementia can be the most difficult job that someone ever does, not only because of the nature of the disease but also the emotional upheaval.  Being diagnosed with dementia can cause fear, depression and anger and feelings of hopelessness and loneliness.  These feelings can often make researching even the simplest bits of necessary information and help difficult. Unlike many other diseases, there is a lack of understanding, sympathy and offers of help, all of which can, over a period of time, leave carers or people living with dementia feeling very isolated. Dementia web removes that isolation by providing information on everything you need to know and links to specialist organizations that have the expertise and knowledge you require if you are in this situation.

During the setting up process of this site many organisations were contacted to ask if they would be a link – people that have the expertise knowledge needed to help those caring for someone with dementia. The response was wonderful as you will see as you work through the site. It is hoped that Dementia web Gloucestershire news site will provide another outlet for many of these organisations so that they can keep you up-to-date with the work/activities they are involved with. It will also keep you informed of research work carried out here in the U.K. and abroad. So check in the categories section for: Dementia News, Recent Research Reviews and Local Events.
